On November 9, we hosted a Diwali Celebration in collaboration with the South Asian Families of Wilmette.
Considering the fact that 11 million people in the United States—about 3.6 percent of us—are deaf or near-deaf, this singular minority doesn’t get much attention. People who experience deafness don’t get flags, or parades. Yet deafness is not simply a disability.
On Saturday, April 20, we hosted an Eid al-Fitr Celebration in collaboration with the South Asian Families of Wilmette.

The Lunar New Year is upon us—that’s the time when the lunar calendar makes a new beginning. China, Korea, Vietnam, and most other East Asian countries celebrate the New Year on the second new moon after winter solstice.
In recent years, Columbus Day has become a hotly contested holiday. It’s beloved by many traditionalists, but others bemoan its links to colonialism.
Yet Columbus Day was never a simple day.
