Your Celebration Here

The library will close at 5pm on Wednesday, November 27, and remain closed all day on Thursday, November 28, for Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume on Friday, November 29, at 9am.

Start Date

With January, we start a whole new round of holidays — and there's plenty of room for more! In fact, whole months are free for the naming.

So far, the Library of Congress has established heritage celebrations for seven months, beginning with Black History Month, in February. March is dedicated to Women’s history and to Irish American heritage. May honors the heritage of Asian Pacific Americans and Jewish Americans. June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Latino Heritage Month. October is dedicated to disability awareness, and November is National American Indian Heritage Month. December is so-far unclaimed, as are January, April, July, and August.

There are plenty of candidates for additional celebrations.  Check out these holiday-related books for reference, and dedicate some days, weeks, or months for celebrations of your own!
