Start Date

“The Unwanteds” by Lisa McMann is set in a dystopian world called Qwill where people are split into three categories at the age of 13, wanted, necessary, and Unwanted. If you were one of the lucky wanteds you went to university. If you were necessary you became a slave and you would serve the wanteds. If you were unwanted, then you would be sent to the death camp where they would kill you. How you become an unwanted is simple, do anything creative or fun. But when Alexander Stowe and the other kids arrive at the death camp, they discover that, without the government's knowledge, a man named Marcus Today has created this amazing world called Artimé, full of crazy things like a statue of a cheetah with wings named Simba who can actually move. But when Alex arrives in Artimé he remembers his twin brother Aaron, and is sad that he had to leave him behind. And it is that sadness that could cause all of Artimé and, hundreds of unwanteds, to be put into grave danger.
