Wilmette Public Library is seeking a fun, enthusiastic and energetic candidate who is adept at providing that exceptional customer service experience for our patrons in a part-time Circulation Assistant position. Under the direction of the Circulation Manager, this position will warmly greet all patrons while performing all Circulation-related functions needed. The successful candidate must be able to multi task, prioritize and demonstrate patience and top-level communication skills.
Circulation Assistant Responsibilities:
- Assist with checking materials in and out, issue library cards, and maintain accurate patron records in our database.
- Screen and answer incoming phone calls and in-person questions, and route to the appropriate department or individual.
- Process holds, clear books, file and perform other Circulation-related tasks as needed.
- Provide courteous, direct customer service and ensure a positive library experience for our patrons.
- Communicate and enforce Library policies & procedures.
Hours & Comp:
- Weekly hours average out to approximately 8-12, and include the following schedule:
- Alternating Thursday and Friday evenings; 5:00pm – 9:00pm
- One Saturday a month; 9:00am – 5:00pm
- One Sunday a month; 12:00pm -5:00pm
- Once Monday evening a month; 5:00pm – 9:00pm
- Flexibility to cover additional shifts highly desirable.
- Starting hourly rate for this grade is $16.30.
- Eligibility to earn paid time off.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma/GED required
- 1 year of experience working with the public required. Library experience preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to take direction, multi-task and work independently.
- Experience with work in a public library setting a plus, and experience with Polaris integrate library system highly desirable.
- Ability to demonstrate basic math and alphabetizing skills.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to maintain accuracy in cash register transactions.
- Bilingual abilities a plus.
