Parking Lot Pickup at the Library

Parking Lot Pickup is an easy, contact-free way to borrow our physical collections. Beginning July 6, appointments are required for Parking Lot Pickup. To use this service, simply:

  1. Place holds on items in our online catalog
  2. Wait for email or phone notification that your items are ready for pickup.
  3. When you receive notification, make an appointment for Parking Lot Pickup. A link to make an appointment will be in your email notification. You can also make an appointment online or by calling the library at 847.256.5025.
  4. Come to the library at the appointed time, pull into a designated spot, and follow the posted instructions.

Please do not make an appointment for pickup until you have been notified your items are ready to pick up.


Parking Lot Pickup and Returns are available:

Monday-Friday: 10am-6pm

Saturday: 10am-3pm 


Due to high demand, it may take a few days for your items to be ready to pickup. Thank you for your patience! 

  • Beginning Monday, July 6, we will begin requiring appointments for Parking Lot Pickup in order to serve you better. When your holds are ready, you will receive an email notification. You can follow a link provided in that email to make an appointment to pick up your items. 
  • If you walk or bike to the library, there’s a designated space for you to pick up your items, too!
  • You may also return items during these times via the return boxes in the parking lot. Please do not return items at Pickup; return items only to the parking lot book return boxes. After items are returned, they will be quarantined in our building before we check them in and begin circulating them again.

How will I know my library items are ready?

You will receive an automated email or phone notification alerting you that your holds are ready. After receiving your notification, please make an appointment to come pick up your items.

What do I do when I get to the library to pick up my items?

When you arrive at the library, park in one of the designated pick up spots and call the phone number posted at your parking spot. Do not exit your car. A staff member will package your items in a bag for your convenience, and place them on a chair in front of your vehicle. Please remain in your car until the staff member has delivered your items, and stepped away. You may then retrieve the items from the chair in front of your vehicle. Please respect social distancing of others in this area at all times.

What will happen to my books after I return them?

We will quarantine all items for three days after they have been returned, per the recommendation of health authorities and professional library organizations. Books and other returned items will go into our return bins and will not be touched by staff until the quarantine period is complete. At that point, items will be checked in. 

Can I browse in the building? It’s hard to pick out books!

What items can I place on hold?

We are currently only circulating items that are currently in the Wilmette Library collection. You will not be able to place items on hold from other libraries until inter-library delivery resumes (likely when Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan comes to our region).
