Special NeedsSensory-Friendly Events for Kids with Special Needs

We welcome all children who meet program guidelines to our events. However, we understand that some kids have special needs that make attending certain programs challenging.

Listed below are sensory-friendly movie screenings and encounters with outside performers. Also listed are programs that, while not designed specifically for kids with special needs, may have particular appeal.

Sensory-Friendly Events

  • School's Out Movie (Sensory-Friendly)
    When: Wednesday, March 29, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Meet Pete and his dragon Elliot in this sensory-friendly screening of the classic 1977 animated version (rated G). All ages.
  • Hansel and Gretel (Sensory-Friendly)
    When: Saturday, April 01, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
    Where: Auditorium

    Improv Playhouse presents this interactive retelling of the classic tale. This performance is intended for children with special needs and their families. Registration starts March 18 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents, March 25 for nonresidents.
  • Pajama Storytime
    When: Wednesday, April 05, 2017 - 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Come in your PJs and bring your favorite blankie or lovie for bedtime stories, songs, and a craft. Ages 3 and up.
