BUILDING MONITOR - POSITION 1

Wilmette Public Library is looking for someone to fill the position of Building Monitor. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Hours range between 12 hours per week and 18 hours per week, from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Subbing opportunities are available.

The duties of Library Monitor include but are not restricted to:

  • patrolling the building to safeguard the security of patrons and staff
  • helping to resolve disruptive situations at the Library
  • preparing rooms and setting up equipment for programs
  • retrieving items from the parking lot book drops
  • ensuring that the building is vacated at the end of the working day
  • locking the building at the end of the working day

Applicants should be able to:

  • follow instructions and library procedures
  • communicate effectively with the public
  • remain composed and helpful at all times

Education and experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service/custodial/security experience an advantage


Physical demands:

The position involves a considerable amount of walking, including up and down stairs. The employee is frequently required to stretch and reach using both arms and hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand or sit for long periods of time; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more.
